If you’ve ever moved, you know how exciting it can be to get settled into the new space. With that being said, for many people saying goodbye to your old home and all the memories attached to it, isn’t very easy.

However, below are a few things you can do to bid your old home a proper farewell.

Snap Some Pictures of It - Before you pack everything and line the hallways with boxes, take some photos of your home as you remember it; if your house has never been spotless (we understand), don't feel obligated to make it immaculate before photographing it. Photograph it as you remember it, as well as how it was used. You will always have photo memories of how your home appeared if you do this.

Throw a Party in Honor of the House - Housewarming parties can be fun, but house farewell parties serve a great purpose: helping you bid farewell to a chapter of your life. You might think it's impossible to hold a party while packing, but that's the beauty of a farewell party: boxes and packing supplies are acceptable, if not encouraged! Enjoy pizza on cocktail tables constructed of stacked boxes while reminiscing!

Take a Walk Down Memory Lane - In your home, your family undoubtedly shared a lot of memories. Take an evening before you move on to your new location to share your favourite memories of the home. Allow each family member to reminisce about a cherished event or memory while looking through photos or m memorabilia from treasured times.

Say “Goodbye” to Your Old Home - Children may have a particularly difficult time leaving the home where they’ve lived a big chunk of their life. Saying "goodbye" in a literal sense can help children feel more at ease. Take the small kiddos through each room and let them say goodbye to each one, it may appear silly, but it can assist children in realizing that a chapter of their lives is coming to an end.

Have One Last “Play” Date in the Home Before you Move - Take an hour or so to “play” in the yard of your old house one last time. It can be nostalgic for your family to have one more play session in the home you love, whether it's jumping in leaves or playing Frisbee. With all of the stress of moving, a little time to play will be much appreciated!

Regardless of what you choose to do to bid your old home a farewell, saying goodbye to the place that created so many memories for you and your family is very necessary.
